Selfishness

Selfish people surround us everywhere we go.  We might be selfish ourselves during certain moments.  However, being completely selfish isn't the right path in which we should go.  When being young we can get away with being selfish with a lot of many things that older adults can not.  For instance, when you have your first child you can not be that young selfish person anymore.  You have to think of your child's needs before yours.  However, what if you do not have children just yet?  Well in a sense we still have to be careful about being so selfish towards others.  I'll give you an example as to where I may be going with this.

You have landed a great job in your dream company and you simply love it there.  One of your friends from back home is struggling in finding employment.  In the company you work for they are seeking an assistant and your friend will take just about any job he/she can get. You know that they will be a great assistant. They ask you if you know of an opening positions and if you would be able to help them out.  You care for your friend, but you don't want them to work in the same company as you because you feel they might take over the spotlight.  So you tell your friend that you don't know of anything and that you're sorry you couldn't help.

Many people face this type of dilemma because they may feel threatened.  However, this is not the right way to go about this situation.  Think of it this way; what goes around comes around (karma).  When you help individuals you will be rewarded in another way in the long run.  You never know where it might lead you in the future.  Do not be selfish and believe that keeping certain things to yourself will benefit you.  It might for the time being, but after a while it will come back to haunt you.  If ever you needed a favor from someone you would like to be helped.  Helping others is not such a bad thing to do. So whenever you are faced with a situation like this think carefully about your decision.
